The Friends of Yosemite Search and Rescue is a non-profit organization that primarily:
- Supports Yosemite Search & Rescue (YOSAR) team members with additional training funds;
- Coordinates with YOSAR in securing grants;
- Provides public outreach and education materials regarding safety in Yosemite National Park.
All donations are administered through an independent board. The board is made up of present/former YOSAR team members and other advisors who have worked in and around Yosemite National Park as administrators, medical professionals, and rescue personnel.
Donations have allowed:
- Team members to receive stipends to attend medical and technical trainings;
- Improvements to facilities and mobile command units;
- Establishing a training endowment to support the future additional training needs of rescue personnel;
- Creating and maintaining this website to provide more timely information on incidents in Yosemite National Park.
For more information on how funds raised have been used, read our year end reports:
No donation is used to directly support rescue operations - the costs associated with missions are covered through Federal Accounts appropriated to the National Park Service.
